History

The Marty Leonard Chapel was constructed on the grounds of Lena Pope Home, Inc. in November, 1990. Its namesake, Marty Leonard, follows a heritage trail set by her parents who were friends and supporters of Lena Pope in the early stages of the development of the Home. Marty has been a Board member for more than four decades and has been forthright about her support of Lena Pope Home. Because of this, her friends and family surprised her on her 50th birthday with a rendering of the chapel and partial funds for construction. The Home and the Chapel, along with the community, have benefitted from Marty's service to the Home. She has been a consistent member of the Executive Committee, has twice served as President of the Board, and has been a leader in building projects, program services, long-range planning and fundraising and development for the Home.

This interfaith Chapel provides an uplifting environment that inspires people to think their highest and best thoughts. It is a place for worship, inspiration, prayer, guidance, celebration, joy, meditation, hope, relaxation, research, education, music and spiritual and cultural enrichment.

The Chapel contains three levels, including a choir loft, sanctuary and lower level complete with a meeting room, dressing room (or other use), kitchen and office.

The Chapel's primary purpose is to serve the youth and families of Lena Pope Home. A secondary function is to provide a setting for weddings, renewal of vows, church services and other life affirming ceremonies. The Chapel welcomes groups of all ages and is able to provide a tour especially tailored to your interest.
