Julie

Julie is a teen who moved here from another state. She is very quiet and speaks with a soft voice. Julie came across a problem when she previously attended a high school in another state. She was introduced to drugs and different types of people. Julie’s family was very upset about what had happened at the other school and didn’t know exactly where to go or what to do. Her family entered into a program to help Julie seal her record and give her a second chance. Julie and her family began working with a Lena Pope Home family specialist who was asked to help the family to unite, grow and learn some anger management skills.

Julie’s family was concerned with her behavior and attitude. She would argue, throw things and even break her own things. Within a month of being the Juvenile Drug Court program, Julie’s family discovered a way to respond to her in a way that made her feel others' emotions, feel loved and cared for. She began to make different friends who were supportive of her efforts to be clean of drugs. Julie received medication and began to find herself concentrating better and more readily able to retain the information she learned. Her family felt that they had reached a point where new hope was recognized. Julie is now passing all of her classes, with mostly A’s and B’s. She has maintained her sobriety for months and has developed a closer relationship with her family in the process.
