Mentoring Program

Chapel Hill Academy is in the process of implementing a mentoring program for our students.  Our goal is to one day have a mentor assigned to every student in our school.  As educators, we know that all children have the potential to succeed in their life’s ambitions.  We want to provide our students with the guidance and support needed to achieve this success.  Many children need additional caring adults in their lives.  The word "mentor" comes from the Greek for "steadfast" and "enduring." Mentoring is the one-to-one or group relationship that one or more adults develop with one or more young people to help them develop and succeed. The benefits of mentoring include:

·         Improving self-esteem;

·         Keeping young people in school;

·         Helping improve academic skills;

·         Leading young people to resources they might not find on their

           own;

·         Providing support for new behaviors, attitudes and ambitions;

·         Increasing young people's ability to seek and keep jobs; and

·         Enhancing parenting skills (Above information courtesy of the

At CHA, a mentor request for a child may be proposed by a teacher or by a parent.  If you have any questions about this program, please contact Jennifer Carpenter, LCSW, School Counselor, at 817-289-0249.
