Educational Services

 

Lena Pope Home, Inc. offers an alternative school service in collaboration with the Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD) to provide alternative education opportunities to students who are experiencing problems in a traditional classroom setting. The primary focus of the Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP) is to teach the students appropriate classroom behaviors while maintaining and enhancing their academic skills. Currently, Lena Pope Home/DAEP operates three alternative schools as well as provides therapeutic services to its students and their families. A description of the DAEP programs follows:

 

Program Descriptions

  • Solutions is an alternative program for regular and special education high school students that have been referred to a third party hearing process at FWISD due to various behavior issues. Students are referred to Solutions High School for violating the FWISD's zero tolerance policy for violence, weapons, drugs, and/or other offenses.
  • Choices is an alternative program for regular and special education middle school students that have been referred to a third party hearing process at FWISD due to various behavior issues. Students are referred to Solutions High School for violating the FWISD's zero tolerance policy for violence, weapons, drugs, and/or other offenses.
  • Insights Learning Center is an alternative school for regular and special education elementary students who are experiencing significant difficulty in traditional school settings by displaying consistently disruptive behavior, developmentally inappropriate behavior, impaired functioning, severe academic deficiencies and ineffective social skills.
  • Alternative Education Consulting Services . Lena Pope Home offers a consulting service FWISD BIC students that are placed in our program.These services include social skills training and process groups.

Philosophy
The rationale for providing alternative educational programs exists in the knowledge that students do their best academically when they have the opportunity to experience success in their educational environment.This is reinforced by the positive implementation of social skills, positive reinforcement, and pro social activities.

Admission Criteria
Eligibility includes:

  • Youth must be enrolled in the Fort Worth ISD
  • Youth has been referred as a result of the FWISD third party hearing process

Completion Criteria
Evaluation of the youth's progress toward attainment of his/her objectives is computed daily on the teaching record, and points are earned for appropriate behaviors. Progression through the level system results in the youth's successful completion of the program.
